Information concerning abstract submissions

ABSTRACTS

Participants are invited to submit an abstract for either oral or poster presentation. All abstracts received and accepted by the Scientific Committee, will be included in a Book of Abstracts that will be compiled by the Organising Committee and distributed at the beginning of the Congress. Please note that at least one of the authors need to fully register to the Congress in order for the abstract to be included in the Book and presentation provisions are made in the program. Abstracts must be received by the Scientific Secretariat no later than November 30, 2010.

You are strongly advised to upload your abstract(s) through the specially designed facility accessible through the member menu  of the congress web site (please note that in order to gain access to this part of the site you first need to create an account). To do so, select the link "Abstract Submission" and then follow the instructions on your screen. Before submitting your abstract please make sure that (a) you register and (b) you download and read the "Abstract submission instructions" available at the "Registration instructions" menu (at the member area of the site).

INSTRUCTIONS

General instructions

STYLE: Abstracts should be brief, clear, with correct syntax and spelling and good sentence structure. Mathematical symbols and equations must be typed in preferably using the equation editor, and metric units should be used. Figures and tables should not be included.

Try to select a brief yet comprehensive title that clearly describes your work. A good title briefly identifies the subject, indicates the purpose of the study and contains key words. Select key words that best describe the issues of your paper and make sure your abstract is well structured, providing an introduction, an outline of your work and the highlights or hints of your conclusions.

All abstracts should be written in English which is the official language of the congress. Similarly oral presentations and posters should be prepared in English.

PROCEDURES: Papers will be accepted on the basis of their originality. All accepted abstracts will be published in a special book of abstracts that will be given to the participants of the meeting at the Conference Desk.

Upon receipt, abstracts are forwarded to the reviewers. As soon as the reviewed abstracts are returned, the contacting authors will be notified by the Organizing Committee whether their abstract is accepted or not for presentation at the Conference. They will also be informed about the final decision on the presentation format (oral or poster), respecting as far as possible the preference of the authors.

A program stating in which session and day the presentation of the abstract has been scheduled for, will be sent to all participants whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation. This information will be provided with the final program and will also be accessible at the congress web site.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS: Parallel scientific sessions are organised during the congress and will be hosted in lecture rooms fully equipped with presentation facilities (laptop, projection system, pointer, PA system). No slide or overhead projector will be available. To maintain integrity and smooth operation of the systems you are advised to submit your presentation well in advance before your assigned time slot and check that it operates properly. A specialised team shall be available for this purpose through out the entire duration of the congress. Details will be announced in due time. Please note that you will not be able to use your own equipment for presentation. Should you have any special requirements please contact the scientific secretary of the congress.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS: The Organising Committee values poster presentations. Arrangements have been made to accommodate your posters at dedicated poster rooms. Each poster size should be limited to 100cm X 100cm in order to de properly displayed on the stands. Please note that the Organising Committee will offer pins and tapes to set up your posters, however we encourage you to make your own arrangements as well, due to possible shortages or special requirements you might have. Further details and instructions will be provided in due time.

JOURNAL PUBLICATION: Selected papers of the Congress will be published in a volume of the monograph series "Advances in GeoEcology" No. 42  by CATENA VERLAG.

AUTHORS’ OBLIGATION: The organisers consider acceptance of a presentation as a commitment by at least one of the authors to register for and attend the conference to present the paper. If extenuating circumstances prevent the author from making the presentation, it is the author's obligation to find an alternative presenter and to notify the organisers.
